My Quora answer : I am an Engineer- How can I learn to draw?

In my view, drawing is pretty close to engineering. I never tried drawing until 2 months ago. Recently, I have tried just 2 drawings, so maybe I'm not in a right position to answer this question. Anyway, I will explain some of the steps, which I follow.

1. Desire phase or Idea phase:

If I see something artistic, I always spend some time to admire its beauty. Look a lot of artistic things and appreciate its beauty. Maybe you can get some idea to draw something new or you can replicate the same.

Creativity  is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how  they did  something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really  do it,  they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. -Steve Jobs

2. Do a quick prototype:

As a programmer, I always do a quick prototype in paper or in mind before developing something. I applied the same in drawing too. The benefit of prototyping is you  get confidence and approximate time estimate to finish your work. Also, another great advantage is, you can show it to your friends and ask them to review your work.

3. Get feedback:

I personally believe that feedbacks are a great way to measure and improve ourself. After finishing the first version of my drawing, I ask my friends to suggest some ways to improve on my work.
Usually I ask 3-5 people, who are my close friends, so they are brutally honest in sharing their opinions.

4. Iterate the process:

The process is as same as building a great product. Get feedback and improve your previous versions based on their comments. Draw again and again till you get some satisfaction about your work.

5. Share it with your friends:

Share your work with others on social media. Their encouragements help and inspire  you to draw more.

These are my first two drawings. I know they are not perfect, and it can be improved further.
